Distil comes with an ever-increasing number of integrations with popular platforms, allowing you to easily and automatically bring your customer data into Distil.
This article gives an overview of setting up an Integration and using it to pull data into Distil. You can use the same Integration to push insights and data out into other platforms via Destinations. For an introduction to the full capabilities of Distil's Integrations (including our Shopify App and powerful API), read our article introducing Integrations.
While the steps outlined below are similar for all platforms, the details can vary. Therefore, we are creating a series of articles for each of the platforms below, with step-by-step guides to setting up Integrations. This is a work in progress, so if you can't click the logo of your platform, then use the instructions in this article:
If you don't see your platform above, you may be able to set up a connection via the Distil API. The icon for this is:
If this isn't possible then please get in touch and we can discuss options.
Create a New Connection
Click the Settings icon in the bottom left of any view within Distil, and then select Integrations from the top menu bar.
In the left menu bar, underneath Add Connection, click on the icon for the platform you want to connect. Give the connection a name and a brief description, and then enter the other connection parameters such as API Key.
The connection parameters will vary depending on the platform. We've created more detailed guides for most platforms in this section.
To find your parameter values, have a look in the platform's user documentation. For example, if you're connecting to Mailchimp, you can find information on how to generate an API key in this article within Mailchimp's documentation.
Viewing Existing Connections
Click the Settings icon in the bottom left of any view within Distil, and then select Integrations from the top menu bar.
In the left menu bar you will see a list of your currently active connections, the name of the integration and the number of data sources. In the example above, there are two active connections: Klaviyo and Shopify.
Click on an integration from this list to view the details of the data sources in the panel on the right. Toggle the switches to enable or disable individual data sources.
Click on a data source to see a list of the Attributes being pulled into Distil, the sync status, number of records and also last sync date. Click the edit icon next to an Attribute to change its name.
The list of available Attributes will vary depending on the source platform. For example, the list of Attributes for a connection to Shopify will be different to those for a connection to Mailchimp. You can also see the list of sync'd Attributes under a tab within the Customer Data Studio > Segments > Data view. Read more about this in the section below on Customer Data Attributes.
Above the available tables and view you will see four options:
Here you can refresh the list of tables or views, and test the connection. You can also enable or disable the entire Integration without having to delete the details.
To edit the Integration connection details, click Edit Connection. A form containing the saved connection details will be displayed on the right. You can edit the form and re-test the connection as needed.
Customer Data Attributes
The list of available Attributes will vary depending on the source platform. For example, the list of Attributes for a connection to Shopify will be different to those for a connection to Mailchimp. As each platform works differently, the number of Attributes available varies across platforms.
For more information on the Attributes sync'd for your platform, click the logo for your platform in the section above.
You can see the list of Attributes for a specific connection by following the instruction in the section above: Viewing Existing Connections. The same Attributes are visible within their own tab within the Customer Data Studio. To see these, navigate to Customer Data Studio > Segments > Data, and click the tab for the relevant connection.
In the example below, the connection is to Shopify. Once the tab is clicked, you can see the sync'd Attributes and their values in the table below.
